Purpose of the Executive Veterinary Program
The University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine’s Executive Veterinary Program™ (EVP™) was developed in 1991 to enhance the business, communication, and planning skills of busy animal health professionals.

The Executive Veterinary Program™ in Swine Health Management covers essential aspects of swine production and health maintenance to enhance the management, consultation, and problem-solving skills of veterinarians.

Program Goals
To provide a beneficial and highly motivating educational experience for veterinarians with an interest in improving their effectiveness to the swine industry.

To serve as a network that enhances the sharing of ideas among swine veterinarians and that promotes dialogue on issues critical to the changing swine industry.

To raise the qualifications and abilities of practicing veterinarians to provide a higher level of service to the swine industry.

To stimulate interest in current and developing career opportunities.

Program Organization
Offered in a continuing education format, the EVP™ is a comprehensive interdisciplinary certificate program distinct from many traditional post-DVM graduate programs. Ten interactive learning modules will be held every other month for two days each (Thursday and Friday). The time between the modules will be utilized by the participants to absorb the material presented, complete assigned work, and apply the information at their work place. Modules are sequenced to enhance the integration of the various topics. To allow time to develop and refine newly acquired skills, certain areas such as biostatistics will be addressed in more than one module.

The EVP™ instructors will be nationally recognized experts in the field, from both academia and industry. Handouts, readings, and practical assignments for individuals and groups will be determined by the instructors. Between modules there will be regular communication between the participants and fellow students, EVP™ instructors, and program staff.

Graduate Degree Options
EVP™ participants may apply coursework earned through the EVP™ in Swine Health Management as partial credit toward a master’s degree at the University of Illinois or at Iowa State University. To receive graduate credit from either of these universities for the EVP™ modules, an additional tuition fee will be assessed and this must be arranged in advance. A specific program of study will be formatted through consultation between the student and graduate program of study.
